Deuterium depleted water is expensive, which makes it worth not wasting. These are the four ways people most often undo their own effort without realising, each with a simple fix. None of them is about how much to drink. They are about not pouring the specification away.

Every one of these is easy to correct, and a couple of them are the kind of thing nobody thinks to mention. Think of it as a tune up rather than a set of rules.

1. Topping Up From the Tap

Ordinary water sits at around 150 parts per million. Yavelle is produced to a 25ppm specification.

The mistake: half finishing a bottle, then filling it back up from the tap or a water fountain. It is the single most common way people accidentally undo what they paid for.

Why it matters: the result is a volume weighted average, and it is unforgiving. Mix half a litre of water produced to our 25ppm specification with half a litre of tap water at around 150ppm and what is in the bottle lands near the midpoint of the two, far above the specification. The label still says 25ppm and the contents no longer meet it.

The fix: refill travel bottles from your own supply. If you are out and need water, drink the tap water separately rather than mixing it in. It does not take much tap water to move the number a long way.

2. Boiling It Away

The mistake: using deuterium depleted water to boil pasta, rice or vegetables, then pouring most of it down the sink.

Why it matters: heating does not change the deuterium content, so cooking with it is perfectly fine. The waste is in where the water ends up. Water used to boil pasta mostly goes down the drain.

The fix: think about whether the water stays in the food. Soups, stews, porridge, sauces, coffee and tea all keep it. Pasta water, blanching water and anything you strain does not. If you want to cook with it, use it where it stays.

3. Forgetting That Food Is a Source Too

The mistake: thinking about deuterium only in terms of what you drink.

Why it matters: deuterium arrives in the diet through food as well as through drinking water, so water is only part of the picture. Reported deuterium values for foods vary by source, season and growing region.

The fix: keep in mind that food contributes as well. None of this is a diet plan and we are not suggesting you need one. It is simply the other part of the picture.

4. Expecting It to Be a Treatment

The mistake: hoping deuterium depleted water will resolve a health concern, or using it in place of proper medical care.

Why it matters: we make no health claims about this product, and we would rather say that plainly than hedge it. Deuterium depletion has a published research literature and a published sceptical literature. The human trials are small, most of the work is in cells and animals rather than people, and the standard of evidence required to make a health claim about a food is not currently met. Both sides are on our research page.

The fix: treat it as what it is. A precisely specified, independently verified drink that some people find interesting enough to try. If you are managing a health condition, that is a conversation for your doctor, and nothing you read about water online should change what they tell you.

The bottom line Do not top up from the tap. Do not boil it away. Remember food is a source too. And do not expect it to be something it is not. Avoid those four and you get exactly what the bottle actually is.
